LaVerne "Frizzie" Long, age 90 of Silverton, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Dementia on Thursday, December 15, 2016. Funeral services were Saturday, December 17 at the First Baptist Church in Silverton. Pastor G.J. Walton presided over the services with Scripture Reading by Tyler Sperry, and Special Music was provided by Jimmy Burson, Sam Brown and Molly Jensen. Tyler and Molly are grandchildren of LaVerne.

LaVerne was born March 12, 1926 in her parent's home in the Lone Star community in northern Floyd County, Texas to A.E. "Elco" and Mary Frizzell. After graduating from Lockney HS, she attended West Texas State College in Canyon for 2-years. This is where she started dating George Long of Silverton. George and LaVerne married on November 24, 1948 in the Frizzell home in Lone Star. They were married for 63-years until George's death on August 4, 2012. They lived their entire married life in Silverton raising two children, Nancy and Nicky.

LaVerne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Silverton, the Century of Progress Study Club, Eastern Star, and socialized with many friends in a bridge club. She served as President of the Study Club. During her time of being involved with the Study Club, one of the community projects was building tennis courts at the City Park in Silverton. The husbands provided the majority of the labor for the project. She was a local Worthy Matron and District Deputy in Eastern Star.
LaVerne enjoyed entertaining in her home where she hosted numerous wedding showers, a wedding reception, luncheons and dinners with friends and family, plus Nancy and Nicky's friends always enjoyed eating and visiting (even when Nancy and Nicky were not there).

LaVerne was the last survivor of 6-siblings of Elco and Mary Frizzell. She was preceeded in death by her parents; step-mother Ethel; brothers Hubert, Jack, Milton "Snooks" and Pat; plus, sister Leota Boyter.
