Mildred Josephine Steen Carthel, age 91, passed away, Saturday, April 23, 2016. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the West College and 3rd Church of Christ in Lockney. Interment will follow at the Lockney Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Arrangements are under the care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney.
Mildred Josephine Steen was born east of Floydada on July 5, 1924 to Buelah and Charles Steen. As a child and young woman she grew up in Canyon, Happy, Hereford, and moved to Floyd County, when she was in high school where she met Fred Lyn Carthel. Jo and Fred were married on April 5, 1942 they lived in Floyd County and farmed for many years. Jo was a talented seamstress, she made twirling suits for the Lockney High School, she worked for Gabriel's in Plainview doing alterations and she sewed for the public for more than 60 years. Jo enjoyed crocheting, doing ceramics and spending time with her family.
Jo is survived by 2 daughter in laws; Janice Carthel of Clovis and Brenda Carthel of Plainview, 10 grandchildren; Kara Carthel-Kirkley (Debra) of Seattle, Washington, Kim Schober (Milton) of Lubbock, Jason Carthel (Elizabeth) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Michael Carthel (Cindy) of Melrose, New Mexico, Crissy McDaniel (John) of Amarillo, Clint Carthel (Dianne) of Cotton Center, David Lemons (Suzy) of Lubbock, Jessica Vasquez (Steven) of Wichita Falls, Dianna Trischitti (John) of Midland, Cory Lemons (Jenni) of Lubbock, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, one brother; Buddy from Mansfield.
She is preceded in death by her husband; Fred, 2 sons; Robert and Mike, and a daughter; Linda.
